Here is an elegant piece - a large chandelier of capiz shells that makes a beautiful visual statement in any room or garden. Feed a corset through the wireframe to create a stunning hanging lamp. These create a nice soft sound and measure 9" x 24" length.
These capiz shells come from a fishing village in Java, where the shell artisans sustainably harvest the shells and shape them. All parts of the capiz (jingle oysters) are used; the meat is used for food, the main part of the shell for artisan crafting and the shell waste for fertilizer. Only full grown shells are harvested from the kelp beds, which provides more space and food source for the young ones to grow.
