These beautiful Capiz shells in shades dark oranges, crimson, muted yellows and pinks hang from an inverted arch frame. This design makes it easy to hang on a wall or even hang together with another color. When placed outside, they create a gentle tinkling sound. Measure approx. 12.75" x 30" length.
Our Capiz shells come from a fishing village in Java, where the shell artisans sustainably harvest the shells and shape them. All parts of the Capiz (jingle oysters) are used; the meat is used for food, the main part of the shell for artisan crafting and the shell waste for fertilizer. Only full-grown shells are harvested from the kelp beds, which provides more space and food source for the young ones to grow.
